What happens when art, film, storytelling, and civic pride come together?

Just as we hoped — World Class Santa Barbara became a joyful and moving celebration of place, people, and pride.
On May 1st, under the soft glow of string lights in La Arcada Plaza, Friends of State Street unveiled something special: 12 original posters. 12 mini-documentaries. 12 incredible stories.
Each one honored a destination that shapes the soul of our downtown — with State Street standing proudly among the icons.
This First Thursday event, two years in the making, brought together neighbors, creatives, and community leaders in a shared celebration of Santa Barbara’s unique identity.
The rain paused just in time. Live vinyl sets from Val-Mar Records filled the air. Guests mingled with cocktails courtesy of Courthouse Distillery, while expert lighting from The Environment Makers cast a warm, inviting glow across the plaza. The seamless coordination from Eji Events helped bring everything to life.
The evening was made possible by the remarkable talents of poster artist Jake Early and filmmaker Isaac Hernández, with deeply felt narration from Justin Gunn and Sonia Aguila — all of whom helped turn a bold vision into a reality.
